1999 – Jack and Betty Cheney

For over 20 years, Jack and Betty have owned the Marion General Store in the village and have provided Marion residents not only with food and supplies, but with dedicated personal service.  If one is unable to come to the store, the Cheney’s will take the order over the telephone, gather the order, then deliver it.

Their ever-changing store windows expertly tell of days gone by with Marion historical memorabilia, photos, and sundries.

They are always hard at work, too.  Betty can be seen watering the beautiful flowers in the window boxes out front while Jack, in his white butcher’s apron, can be seen sweeping the sidewalk squeaky clean in front of their store.

Marionites can see that Jack and Betty take pride in all that they do.  They embody the timeless value of friendship so prevalent in this small seaside town located off the beaten track.  Their old-world cordiality, civility, and kindness make Marion proud.
