Jay Crowley has been for many years a member of Marion’s planning Board. She also gives her time to the Marion Tree Committee, which as won for Marion the distinction of being a Tree City USA. She belongs to the Marion Garden discussion Group, the Sippican Women’s Club, as well as being a lector at St. Gabriel’s Episcopal Church. Jay has been a coordinator of the Library Volunteers at the Sippican School as part of VASE (Volunteers at the Sippican Elementary School). With Kay Reis she started the Read Aloud program for the kindergarten of this school. Children take home 5 books to read aloud each week. The program runs for 5 weeks In the fall and 5 weeks in the spring. Jay also ran the Beverly Yacht Club’s junior sailing program. Jay was the president of the Marion League of Women Voters, and was on the board of directors for the League of Women Voters of Massachusetts. She began the local tri-town telephone book which is published yearly by the League. Jay also was a volunteer for the Marion’s Visiting Nurse Rummage Sale for many years. Jay and her husband, Thomas T. Crowley were married for 53 years before he passed away. She has 4 children and 6 grandchildren.
