On Thursday, June 15th, the Sippican Historical and Preservation Society will present a slide lecture on the history of the Moorings on Converse Point, Marion.   At the beginning of the 20th century, the Moorings was one of the most impressive estates on all of Buzzards Bay.

Frank McNamee, director of the Sippican Historical and Preservation Society, and Pete Smith, curator, will give an interesting lecture and slide presentation outlining the history of this great estate.

This will take place at St. Gabriel’s Parish Hall on South Street, Marion at 6 p.m.   The lecture will be followed by a reception at the Sippican Historical and Preservation Society Museum on the corner of Front and Main Streets as well as a dedication of the Golden Age Room in memory of Peter Converse, whose family built the original Moorings.   Peter was a long time director and supporter of the Sippican Historical and Preservation Society.

Thursday evening will also mark the opening of a special exhibit on the Moorings, which includes some original objects from the estate as well as some of the original china from the Converse family yacht, the Parthenia.

Refreshments will be served.   All Sippican Historical and Preservation Society programs and lectures are free and open to the public.
